The Select Technical Services team has been shortlisted for the Product/Equipment Innovation of the Year at the International Tunnelling & Underground Space Awards 2014.
Their Square Section Steel Inclinometer Tubing product has stood out from a large number of entries to be shortlisted at the prestigious London engineering event.
Like all the best ideas, it’s a simple yet highly effective tool for sighting down inclined planes to measure dip angles. Traditional methods are prone to erroneous readings and equipment damage. Select’s innovation utilises a strong steel enclosure to house the measurement sensors, which overcomes many of the difficulties found with the industry standard installation methods.
“Environmental measurement and control, and interpretation of asset management data are fundamental to our automated monitoring,” said Peter Hewitt, business leader for Select Technical Services. “We found that even simple monitoring, such as with inclinometers, was frequently unreliable due to difficulties during installation, leading to instability and reliability issues”. “Our solution allows for installations to be pre-fabricated as part of piled reinforcing cages, which are robust and deliver far more accurate data. Quite simply, our service is significantly cheaper, much safer, and delivers more accurate results.”
