• Hazards and risks from the use of Abrasive Wheels and precautions
• Methods of marking as to type and speed of wheels
• Methods of storage, handling and transporting wheels
• Methods of testing and inspection for damage
• Function of components and the method of mounting and balancing on machines
• Methods of dressing an abrasive wheel (where applicable)
• The adjustment of the tool rest (where applicable)
This course is to provide delegates with an appreciation of the hazards associated with the use of Abrasive Wheels and be familiar with the requirements under the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER), along with other legislation/guidance available.
• Personnel are trained in the safe use of Abrasive Wheels and are familiar with the different types of equipment available and abrasive wheels
• Identify/ select equipment, and abrasive wheels for different types of activities
• Risk assessment (RA) and apply the appropriate control measures necessary for the use of Abrasive Wheels.
• Identify the PPE / RPE needed as a control measure to prevent the risk of injury.
Classroom theory sessions are complete with practical demonstrations throughout the course by the trainer. Group exercises and discussions on example exercises are shown in Q & A sessions. Delegates complete a group practical exercise for selecting and changing abrasive wheels on differing types of machines and complete an end-of-course written
assessment.
