Case Study

Select supplied temporary accommodation solutions for the project team delivering the £350m, 560-bed critical care hospital in Gwent.

The Grange University Hospital was handed over and opened to patients in November 2020, four months ahead of schedule and it now provides specialist treatment for the region’s most seriously ill patients with an emergency department for 600,000 people across this part of south Wales.

At the peak of construction, the project required onsite facilities for 650 people.

Select designed a three-storey solution comprising 74 modular units featuring bespoke items requested by the client, notably the floor-to-ceiling window panels that offer a panoramic view of the site, along with a viewing platform.

Select managed the entire process on the client’s behalf – from manufacture at Laing O’Rourke’s Centre of Excellence for Modern Construction in Worksop, to transportation through Explore Logistics and installation by Specialist Lifting. This allowed the Modular Accommodation team to act as the single point of contact for site, thereby minimising the operation’s complexity.
